Experienced RN wants to get into ICU

Hello,
I have been an RN for over 8 years now. I started out in a step-down, med/surg/tele unit and did that for 5 years. After that I worked in home health for a while and now I am currently working in an inpatient endoscopy unit. I am ACLS certified with telemetry experience. I have been trying for a while to get a position in ICU but I keep getting rejected due to not having previous ICU experience. After a year in this situation I am pretty frustrated. If ICU's are willing to train new Grad nurses into their positions then why are the experienced nurses being rejected? Any help or advice on how to find an ICU position willing to train an experienced RN who wants to change specialties? Thank you so much.
