taking a foreign language class

I am looking to become bilingual in spanish either via a major or certification. I was just wondering if anyone had any advice as to what the best route to take would be? I don't know if I should minor in Spanish or just take a Spanish medical terminology class and or what hospitals would prefer. Do they just want some Spanish background or what is considered proper certification to be consider bilingual.
