Co-worker dynamics

I recently became a certified medical assistant. I was so excited to get a great-paying job with decent hours. However there is one co-worker with an obnoxious and loud personality. She talks non-stop and always asks for favors when she can easily do things herself. I don't like working in an environment where one person's attitude takes over everything. Everyone is irritated by her at some point. But I don't want to quit a job after only a few months. I want to stay at this job for one year to look good on my resume. How can I deal with this person while still learning at this job? Thank you !
Find a way to physically distance yourself from her if possible. Ask the boss for a space in an office with a door and close it. Put a desk and chair in the parking lot if you have to. Do some passive-aggressive moves, like getting up and walking away when she is loud and obnoxious. Be direct with the offender. Talk to the supervisor and see what they say is possible. You may have to grin and bear it until the year is up.

To Caliotter3: Thank you for the suggestions. I have walked away when she starts asking for a lot of favors. She knows her stuff, but can be so lazy at times. The best advice is grin and bear it. I don't have to work with her every day and at least I only have one obnoxious co-worker and not 5!! I will use this as a learning experience and take time to see what other fields I might want to get into. Who knows, a lot can happen in one year! But it is so nice to "vent" on the message board when something gets under my skin. Thank you for response and happy new year

She probably has ADD. You need to have the talk. Ask her if she does. If you are friendly suggest she up her meds. You can not enable her by doing all of her task work. ( Sorry I'm busy right now.)If she gets nasty, just say okay you do you and I'll do me.Do not go to the management. They already know and they expect you to work it out on your own.

libbyliberal:Yes, she does have ADD and she is very vocal about what medicine she takes and if she has or has not taken it. She also tells us that WE should ask her if she has taken her meds. I refuse to be a babysitter for her and I don't like it when someone's personality/mental difficulties take over an entire office. Thank you for the advice. I will keep these in mind "Sorry I'm busy" "You do you and I'll do me." Great!

I wish that I worked in an office. I would wear headphones all day long. You do not have to be a captive audience. Tell her you are taking a break. Ask to move your work area so that you can focus. If she says she forgot her medication "yeah I can tell. "Put a ******* plastic pill box on her desk.
