Advice for last week of Practicum

Hi. I'm finishing up my last week of the RN-BSN Practicum in PACU next week. I have learned so much from my preceptor and other nurses in the unit, but I feel I have not gained the knowledge I wanted. Being a Med-Surge-Tele nurse for many years, I feel I already had the experience on how to recover a patient from surgery. So recovering a patient was not new to me only that I was in a new unit. I wished I would have been able to understand more regarding IV sedation vs. General anesthesia, A-line monitoring, and immediate post-op pain management.
I really need advice on how to get the most out of my experience for my last week in PACU.

Can you tell your preceptor your concerns? He/she may be able to point you in the right direction.

Asked to be included as an observer or assistant in as many tasks/procedures as possible. I agree that you should voice concerns to the preceptor. Remember, right now your objective is to get an overview. Do not stress over what you do not know. After you get your license you can pursue more education. I bet it took those nurses years to feel comfortable with all they do.

Don't expect your practicum to be as in-depth as an orientation.
