Visiting Nurse

Hi there,

I would like to become a visiting nurse, so I applied online to multiple agencies in my closest areas which is Fairfield County in CT, unfortunately I did not receive any response. Is there any trick to become a visiting nurse?

I currently work on the medical unit in one of the hospitals in the area but I would like to become a visiting nurse per diem. Could someone help me out what is the best way to start this process. Maybe any agencies that are hiring?

First off, few home health care agencies will consider hiring a nurse who has no current/recent, let alone no, home health care experience to a per diem position. Few will be winning to hire, train, precept an employee who may not work that much, but may suddenly need to work a lot, temporarily.If home health care is your goal, you've done your homework on what is involved (LOTS of paperwork, possibly LOTS of driving... and a whole lot more, but that is for a different post), you will likely need to go at least part time for a year or so, if not full time.With the glut of nurses in most areas of the country, most employers are only hiring those with current/very recent experience. So, if you can, apply for at least part time. Good luck!

I go to home health agencies in person, ready to interview, with all my employment papers and data. Usually I am interviewed and hired on the spot, or given an appointment for an interview. You might want to revisit these agencies in person.
