Can 2% lidocaine be given im?

Today when looking for 1% lidocaine to mix with rocephin, I came across 2% lidocaine. Is it something you give IM? Can it be used to mix with rocephin? I don't quite know what it is used for.
We use it for bone marrow aspirations.

Comment:
Do you give it IM or subq?

Comment:
Very confused by your post...what is the objective for the lidocaine? Topical numbing? Antiarrhythmic?

Comment:
The doctor puts it in deep IM. Why are you mixing rocephin with lidocaine? We always hang ours IV.

I'm a new nurse and I'm sorry for the confusion. I know you can use 1% lidocaine to mix with rocephin because it hurts like crazy. My question was can you use 2% for the same thing? or what is it used for?

Comment:
I have heard of Lidocaine being mixed with Rocephin when given IM because it is painful. I think the difference between the 1% or 2%, is just that, 1mg/ml or 2/ml. I think IV doses treat arrythmias.

When all else fails, call your support team, pharmacy for example

Quote from OCNRN63We gave it IM in the ED for some STDs.

Comment:
We do mix lidocaine with IM rocephin. Not sure if its 1% or 2%. Call the pharmacy and ask them.

Comment:
Ah, good to know.

Comment:
We mix 1% all the time with Rocephin. Isn't 2% what they use to numb for sutures?
