What's the difference between per diem and registry....

what's the difference between per diem and registry? can anyone explain this to me...thanks...pat
I have found that it depends on the facility or agency you are working for... let me first say that my definition of "per diem" is for someone to work as needed and "registry" is a float pool to service the facility. The hospital I previously worked at had a huge registry that staffed all areas of the hospital: med/surg, oncology/chemo, step-down, ICU's/ED, and OB/NICU/Peds. Another hospital I worked at had a per diem pool with the same concept and the nurses could full-time in that position but were not guaranteed hours.

I agree with above. However, I find that a perdeim status usually means you are an employee used as needed. In a sense you are employed by the facility you work for. Registry is an agency that you work for that sends you to different facilities. You might work x hospital one day med surg, y hospital oncology next day.

In every hospital where I have worked, the definition was the same. Staffing on an "as needed" basis.
