Will long term care experience be the experience enought to get into a hospital

What are your thoughts...
New grad and no experience. A lot of job postings are looking for experience, if I were able to get into a LTC facility, would that be the type of experience the hospitals are looking for?
IMO, no.....

You have to start somewhere to get experience! Rehab. LTC facilities are somewhere to start your nursing practice.

IMO... LTC is not good enough experience for the hospital. I did LTC for 7 years and I have been in the hospital for 2 years. HUGE DIFFERENCE!

I'm with yoshiki56. You have to start somewhere so LTC/SNF is better than no experience, I say go for it.

In a few cases, perhaps. In most cases, no.

I live in Indianapolis and my hospital hires new nurses all the time, no experience required.

LTCs get such a bad rep..Seriously.I did it for a year and a half. I started IVs, did meds/tx for 25 subacute patients (15 on vents, tube feeds, etc), wound vacs, PICC line and PAC maintenance... you get a ton of leadership experience (RNs are often charges, so you learn to deal with patient families and direct staffing.) If you are evening or night shift, you are often only one of a handful of RNs, meaning no doctors, so you need to critically think when your resident's go bad, just like any other nurse.I felt like you did when I graduated from college, but i'm glad i did it. I got a job in a hospital just fine afterwords. LTCs are often overlooked, especially in RN programs, but they really are a great place to start out. (end rant.. haha)
