Journal of work experience

Hey Everyone!

I have been a CNA in my hospital's nursing resource float pool for 2 years and I just got this idea from my mom that I should start a journal and write down some things about my night at work after my shift is over as to keep a journal of my work experience... She is always amazed at the crazy stories I bring home about what happened at work and she says I could write a book someday...

I don't know that my stories will ever be published, but it got me thinking.. this would be a really cool idea.. Some day several years down the road, I can look back at this journal and laugh at all of the crazy things that happened in my first job in healthcare!

I only wish I had thought of this sooner!

Do any of you nurses or aides keep a journal? Do any of you have any suggestions for me?

I think it's an excellent idea! It will enable you not only to acquire a fund of stories which may indeed be compiled into a book one day, but will help you to hone your writing skills!Think of the "vet" books by James Herriott, and the "Doctor" series by, I think it was Richard Gordon...I think it's high time a talented nurse author jumped on the bandwagon.Just remember the privacy laws, which I'm sure I don't even have to mention, and go and get yourself a nice thick hard cover book to jot down your stories while they're fresh in your memory; if you are planning on typing it on your pc, always back up a copy, or print what you've typed-there's nothing more frustrating than compiling something and have your HDD crash!I hope you have lots of fun and make lots of money

There have been some good books written by nurses about their experiences. There is one written by Echo Heron that I enjoyed (though I doubt some of her tales where she practically outdiagnoses even the best doctors, lol). I read it while I was in nursing school and couldn't put it down.Intensive Care; The Story of a Nurse by Echo Heron.
