What other units do you work on besides your "home" unit?Rating: (votes: 8) I work in the NICU and get pulled to central nursery or peds when we are overstaffed and they are short. Trust me, it is NEVER by choice. Comment:
I work regional float pool. Everything except surgery. Love it
Comment:
Float pool CNA. Love it.
Comment:
None. At our facility, critical care nurses (ICU/ER) don't float anywhere. We have "closed units."
Comment:
I work Complex Continuing Care(mixed bag of medical, rehab, palliative, and seniors waiting for a nursing home bed) but I float to cardiac/medical and the post-surgery/medical unit as well.If they are short somewhere I get called.I sort of fell into working the other units. They were short and I was willing to work on another unit short notice.Fun but sort of "trial by fire", since I never had any orientation to the other units.
Comment:
I work med/surg, but every once in a while get the chance to work ER, take an ambulance ride, and have even helped in recovery once or twice. I think different experience is a great educational opportunity.
Comment:
I get floated to med-surge, cardiac, neuro, cardio-thoracic and observation. It is never by choice. On my unit we take turns floating when our census is down and other units are in need. I guess it beats being cancelled, but it can be stressful being pulled to a specialized unit where I don't feel I know how to care for the pts (neuro and cardiac).
Comment:
I work step-down and when I float it has always been ICU (so far). I can also "pick-up" shifts on the med-surg units and ICU, but not ER, psych or OB.
Comment:
I work onco and so far have been floated to cardiac med-surg (mostly 3-4 day post op CABG pts, but some CVA people too), ortho, and what has almost become a surgical step down unit (lots of neuro pts, GI surgeries & trauma pts). We can pick up anywhere in general med-surg (no ER, CC or mother baby).
Comment:
Med surg, Tele, CCU. Usually if we go to ER it is to care for vented patients waiting to come up to ICU
Comment:
I work ER, but pick up shifts on Stepdown and GI Lab.I like the variety.
Comment:
I work in medical ICU. I pick up OT in the bone marrow txp unit and in the surgical ICU. I love my "field trips." I like doing OT outside my home unit--I always learn something new, gain some new skills, have a chance to do a little networking, and every time come back "home" more deeply appreciating what I've got.
