Order Tech

Hi guys,

I got a silly question for you all. I am a BSN student that is graduating in May in New England. I just got hired on a cardiac progressive care unit (intermediate/step-down floor) at a level I trauma center in the south. When I was interviewed they mention they had someone (I forget the name of the role) that processes all the orders. I forgot at the time, due to nerves, to ask what the really means. I have experience as a tech at a major hospital, so my guess is this is like the unit secretary that prints the stickers for labs and and makes sures phlebotomy stops by.

Am I totally off base? What is an order tech?

Thanks!! Last edit by raskol on Mar 15, '11
Sounds like you have it about right. Sounds like a unit secretary that performs the clerical functions of that floor, like labels, entering orders, thinning charts, and that sort of thing.

Comment:
agreed. Someone who transcribes orders and may followup on what he/she can (like make followup MD appt)

Don't worry about that now! Ask lots of questions and don't think you should always know the answers. Congrats and Good luck on your wonderful new position! Remember the only dumb questions are the ones that aren't asked.
