What does TBU (transitional bed unit) mean?

Rating:
(votes: 0)

I just got a call about prebooking me for ___ TBU. I wanted to know what TBU meant before calling them back.

Thanks!
Transitional bed unit to me.. means between hospital and LTC.. but that may not be everywhere. Why not just call and ask???? Then if they make offer, ask more questions and if unsure ask for a day to decide if they allow it. Best of luck

Comment:
At my hospital we have a transitional care unit, assuming it is the same thing. It is once the ED doctor has wrote admitting orders but there is currently not an inpatient bed. They get to stay in the TCU until a bed of their care level (med-surg, tele, step down) opens up.

Comment:
TCU can also mean a bridge between ICU and med/surg.

Comment:
stable patients awaiting long term care beds

Comment:
Quote from roser13TCU can also mean a bridge between ICU and med/surg.
