Liability insurance

Hey all,
Quick open forum to all nurses out there. What is your opinion on having self liability insurance. I know most of us have employer sponsored insurance but just want an open discussion about how you feel buying vs not buying one? thanks for your participation
It is better to be safe than sorry. Do not expect your facility to cover you with their liability insurance at all times. In addition, people fail to realize that many liability insurance policies will reimburse the nurse for legal fees incurred while defending one's license if it has been referred to the state's board of nursing.

Comment:
Exactly what Commuter said. I don't practice without it.

Just started nursing school and have already looked at Liability quotes for when I start working. Your employer may have liability insurance in place for you but will your employer's liability insurance pay for your attorney fees if your employer accuses, blames, or charges you with a wrong doing. Probably not. Best to always protect yourself.

Comment:
Your own liability insurance is an absolute must. Period. Why?Many reasons. Youwill be covered (and not just as an agent of your employer) and represented by our own attorney, including before the BON (chances are, if this happens, your employer will be the one to turn you in to the board. So why would their liability insurance protect you?! You'll be the scapegoat. Believe it). Your employer's insurance only protects you as far as it suits them; if necessary for their defense, they'll throw you under the bus. No doubt.
