What hospital is best to work for in Columbus OH?Rating: (votes: 0) If you are speaking in general terms they are pretty much the same. OSU is unionized, the rest are not. Children's pay is usually not as competitive because they are the only pediatric show in town. Comment:
Also OSU is public, so they get a ton of uninsured, low income level patients, where Ohio Health (Riverside and Grant) and Mount Carmel dont get as many. Not to say that OSU is worse because of this and the others are better. OSUMC is actually a very good hospital, nationally ranked.

Actually that isn't really true. All of the hospitals in Columbus accept Medicare so they are required to provide a certain amount of charity care (actually a huge amount). The only reason it might appear that OSU sees more low-income people is because of its location. Same goes for Grant...have you ever been there? Even the suburban hospitals (Dublin Methodist might be the exception) are inundated with un-insured patients. That's one of the reasons Dr's North had to close their ER.

I have lived in Columbus and went to nursing school in the area. I do believe that OSU has a greater percentage of uninsured patients than the other hospitals. That isnt to say that the others dont have their share of it, because of course they all have uninsured patients, Grant being a prime example as you mentioned.

While they are not union and may not pay the highest, I would have to say the folks at Mt. Carmel seem the happiest to me. Mt Carmel East is a very supportive environment. The folks at MC New Albany surgical center have an awesome facility and its kinda dreamy to work there from the folks I talk to. Just my 2cents.

I go to school at Mount Carmel and have loved every clinical location I've had at their hospitals. I just got hired as an aide there and I hope it's the start of a long career with them. I love Mount Carmel!
