Question about TIBC test

Is it possible to have a normal hemoglobin result but an abnormal TIBC result?? I am having a disagreement with my mom and wondering what your thoughts on the subject are.
Yes. Although TIBC is related to Hgb an abnormal value in one area does not necessarily mean that there will be an abnormal value in another.

Comment:
TIBC measures the amount of transferrin, a protein that takes up iron and carries it around in the body and supply it to cells. Hemoglobin, on the other hand, measures the amount of well, hemoglobin -- protein that carries around oxygen and resides in red blood cells. TIBC and hgb are really looking at two different things but can be used together for a specific diagnosis. So yes, you can have one normal but the other abnormal.
