cop to nurseRating: (votes: 0) Do you dislike your job? I work with an RN who was a cop for 20 years and then went back to school for nursing. My husband is training to be a police officer now and the benefits are excellent. You could always retire early and then become a nurse later in life! Comment:
Benefits for cops are much better than any hospital or nursing home.

depends on where you are a cop. One of my former co-workers was making $10 as a local small borough cop. Nurses make more than that (even LPN's). May not be worth it if you're a state trooper or something but if you're in small town America you may make out better....his reason for changing careers was that he was making $10 an hour to put his life on the line daily. So not worth it.

I think I like the idea of my job better than actually liking it, it doesn't fit my personality because I'm a pretty nice laid back person. Nursing has always interested me but I just enjoy knowing that my family and I will be so well taken care of with my current benefits. It's really a play it safe or take a chance type of thing

Well if ur considering this career change I recommend u work for a prison. The benefits n retirement r great. I work at a prison in Cali and I love it. Just something to think about. Nurses get paid well...job security

You could be a nurse for the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Good gov't job with great bennies and retirement- they love former cops turned nurse.
