Co-administration of Zyvox and albuterol?Rating: (votes: 3) I thought only anti-depressants/anti-anxiety drugs were MAOI's? I guess I am mistaken.. or is it that linezolid has MAOI-like properties and can cause such a reaction? Anyone have any experience with this? Or had any patients with reactions while using linezolid? (There were no other diet recommendations/restrictions from pharmacy or the Dr. for this patient regarding the linezolid). Just wanted to see others' experiences! Thanks. Yes, Linezolid is a monoamine-oxidase inhibiter but it's a weak one. Comment:
This is actually very interesting as this is the second thing I've seen detrimental from Zyvox. I just recently took care of a patient that had a communication stating that a b vitamin (6? 12?) needed supplementation while on Zyvox due to its function in the body...That said, I've never heard that, no.
Comment:
What is the adverse reaction Zyvox (or any MAOI) and albuterol cause?
Comment:
Quote from Cat_LPNWe received a notice from pharmacy on a patient prescribed the antibiotic linezolid (Zyvox) and albuterol inh, referring to MAOI's (that linezolid apparantly has MAOI-type properties?) interacting with albuterol and should not be used concurrently, or within 14 days of one another. (Which I am aware is the standard for MAOI's and interacting medications).I thought only anti-depressants/anti-anxiety drugs were MAOI's?
