I have recently have had an onset of anxiety. I can't relax can't think. I'm so embarrassed. I feel like only a devine intervention could help me refocus and calm down. I don't feel safe caring for my patients in this state of mind. This is the scariest thing I've ever faced. I'm not sure what to do.
Firstly if you don't think you are capable of being safe with your care then you need to speak with your supervisor/manager immediately. Secondly anxiety can be treated with drugs and or counseling. See if your employer offers counseling services where I work we are offered so many visits for free each year. Thirdly nursing can be a very stressful profession so do not feel weird or foolish about talking to someone. There have been many that have been in your situation and have gotten help.

JOYFULONE84 - I too suffer with TERRIBLE anxiety...I mean TERRIBLE! I tried meds a while ago but did not like the way they made me feel at all and I stopped them. There are 2 things that have helped me so much1 - Start taking Vitamin B Complex on a daily basis...I jsut feel calmer throughout the day and less on edge2 - *MOST IMPORTANT* Go to this website www.stresscenter.comIt honestly saved me and helped my anxiety so much that now I don't even need medicine. Dont get me wrong I still get very bad anxiety sometimes but now I know how to calm myself when it comes on and deal with it, and stay out of panic mode and focus more. Check out the website. I ordered the program and honestly its made a real difference. It is pricy, but I love it and it was worth every penny to me!

I started reading The UltraMind Solution by Mark Hyman, MD. He suggests lack of multivitamins, minerals, omega 3s combined with high sugar, high fat diets causes many problems such as depression, anxiety, ADHD, etc. It's a pretty good read.

We aren't equipped her nor allowed to give medical advice. Please speak with your primary care provider and your manager. Thread closed
