stay or leave med surg?

Hi all! I have been working in my hospital's med surg unit for the past year and a half. I enjoy it for the most part, but as many of you well know, nights are tough. I have been presented with the opportunity to work in the women's clinic Aldo part time, which is what I want. I have small children at home and would love the opportunity to be back on days and no weekends! Also the clinic job is nonunion, but I don't really care about that... what would you do? Any suggestions? Please help! Thanks

Sometimes we choose the familiar, just because it's familiar.Passing on things that are better for us because they're unknown.Go with what you want.
Just be aware that the further you move from the hospital environment may make going back difficult if you think it is something you might want in the future. Most nurses move from med/surg. Sometimes it is nice to pick what feels like an easier path . I switched to cardiac rehab 5 yrs ago after 15 yrs mostly in critical care My life is incredibly easier. The down side ..I am aware that I have forgotten alot that I learned. Sometimes that bothers me but I am no longer always exhausted,I have time for family.To me...it's worth it. And yeah..I do miss sometimes a "good " code.Really,there are no wrong decisions,just easier or more difficult paths.Listen to your heart
Do what feels right to you, it sounds like you already know what you want to do. It might be a good idea to stay per diem at the hospital because it's good money and you can keep up your skills. I left med-surg after a few years for home dialysis and love my decision but I did keep my m/s position per diem for the extra money and keeping up my skills.Good luck!
