job situation for RN grads in my part of FL

I'm a newbie...looking to apply to the RN program this year. I worked in the dental field for 25 yrs, the last 20 as a hygienist. Recently let go from my job & can't even get an interview. The hygiene market is totally flooded in west-central FL & in the whole nation from I'm reading. How is the job situation for RN grads in my part of FL?

I have recently discovered that a good number of the nurses I meet in Orlando are commuting from Cocoa, Daytona, Melbourne, etc. So that can clog up the market as well. Remember central Florida has numerous schools pumping out nurses. There's UCF, Valencia, Seminole State, Keiser, Remington, Herzing, etc. That leaves a difficult market for new grads. I know grads from other colleges who are in the UCF program and have been unable to get a job 6-8 months after graduating and passing NCLEX. So make sure you are prepared for a long job hunt and at least are able to survive the job hunt. You may get lucky and not need to worry, but I know so many RN's who are working in retail or restaurants because they can't find work in nursing.
