Foreign trained nurse. Scared..

Rating:

H everyone. I've been applying in different SNF's here in LA county. I'm nervous as hell! I haven't gone in any interview yet so I have no idea what to expect.. Except from those I have read on this site, which is actually pretty helpful yet scary.. Makes me feel more nervous! Hehe. I've read posts where new RN's were being bullied and unrespected by their colleagues. I absolutely don't want it to happen to me. I'm getting more scared because I'm a foreign trained nurse, and I just got here in the US a few months ago.. I am a RN but I've been unemployed for 3 yrs now so I don't feel confident anymore. There are so many things I have forgotten and I'm trying to review and study by my self but I still I can't find my confidence to go back.. I wish I could get a job where senior staff/ nurses will be nice respectful and understanding.. Especially to nurses like me who were anxious to be back in track but still dying to get a nursing job and practice her dream profession. Reading posts about bullying makes me doubt about applying for jobs or anything.. I'm an immigrant and I'm still trying to adjust with the culture here so everything is so overwhelming for me. Help! I have no advice but wanted to say good luck. It is especially hard in nursing homes. I hope you are able to find a place where you can be comfortable. Unfortunately nursing isn't very friendly in many areas of the u.s.

I appreciate you wishing me good luck. Well I guess I have no choice but to try and to just learn how to deal with it.. No pain, no gain... Sigh! Thanks.

We're in the same boat scarlet14. I'm still job hunting and in dire need to find one but to no luck, cant find any. I was told to try SNF's since hospitals require a year or two of experience. But reality check, it takes one to know someone in facility or even in hospital to be able to land a job. Stay focus and persistent and most importantly be optimistic. I know we can overcome all this.

Moved to nursing career advice forum to elicit further response. It's tough out there right now, good luck in your job search.

Curious as to why, really, I mean- foreign nurses are being recruited with the job market here as awful as it is? Does not add up, sorry.

Quote from mali_santizo:sigh:....responding As a foreign nurse:. I don't want to be rude. But You don't know our stories... Besides here I find the nursing work way more easy. And I think that's why foreigners are sometimes more demanding. As a PHRN I was in charge of 18 programs. (Immunizations, HIV, TB, Maternal Health, management, and others) and here I'm just in charge of one ! Good for me!!! But o can't decide which one, lol! I love them all!

Quote from reagajetonWe're in the same situation!! I finished my BSN 4years ago already and no nursing experience at all!! I just passed nclex here. I'm shy and not confident to work as a RN yet because I don't have any experience and didn't do my clinicals here. What I'm doing now is volunteer at hospital to improve my confidence and familiarize myself with the nursing practice here. I'm planning to take refresher course too. Goodluck to us!
