BLS and other such CoursesRating: (votes: 0) 1. Should I take the PALS certification after I already have the BLS for Healthcare? 2. Do you have any suggestions on other certification courses to take? My goal is to work in a hospital doing just about anything I can. The reason I am taking these courses is because I've tried applying for simple hospital jobs such as patient transportation and I am never hired. I do have a lot of previous work experience but no hospital. I am studying to be a doctor and want at least to get to know the hospitals better. Thanks. Pals is pediatric advanced life support and is intended for licensed professionals such as nurses, paramedics, respiratory therapists, and physicians. This is not likely to help you get a job as a patient transporter or similar work. There are very few certifications necessary or relevant to transporter or unit clerk jobs. Most are for clinical professionals. Maybe medical terminology if you want to work as a unit clerk. There are ServSafe certifications if you wanted to get a job as a dietary aide (delivering patient trays, picking up menus, etc) for safe food handling. If you want to work in patient care you can try for a certified nursing assistant or patient care technician class these are basic patient skills classes. Some patient tech classes may include some phlebotomy and/or basic ECG (as in machine operation) training But neither is directly related to medicine as it is closer to direct patient care that nurses perform. You can try applying for a volunteer job in the local hospitals. Sometimes that can help get you the exposure to get you noticed for the non-skilled jobs in patient transport etc. some medical schools like to see a balance of paid, volunteer and academic work. Comment: Great, thanks! I think you pretty much answered all of my questionsThanks again!Comment: See the edited post there isn't much relevant to unskilled jobs or medical school other than patient care assistant/technician or maybe CNAComment: Honestly you my be considered overqualified for patient transporter if you have a lot of other work experience. CNA/PCA/PCT jobs often go to pre-nursing/nursing students as they are more likely to seek advanced employment with the hospital once finished with their education. Very few physicians are employed by hospitals directly.Comment: I would suggest taking an EMT class and then applying to positions in the ER.
