Changing Specialty

I have been working as a psychiatric nurse for two years now and I am looking to get out of patient care altogether. It just is not for me. I am interested in a desk position with minimal interactions with patients. I am considering taking some classes in health information technology in order to perhaps secure such a position in the future but I am not sure that this is the direction I should be going education wise. I would greatly appreciate any advice or suggestions on this. Thank you!
I would look into case management. Or quality assurance. There's even certifications for case managers.Look at the internal job opportunities in your facility. Look online at some of the local hospital's websites. See what is available and what you would like to do.Even some MD offices have specific information management people. Same with Home Health and Hospice.Psych nursing is trial by storm. And can cause burn out pretty quickly. A break is not a bad thing, but perhaps a PRN job in say home health to experience another part of nursing you may just want to think about...Good luck!!
