psych RN job market in NC for one who has no psych experience

Hi,

I have been working as an RN in adult med-surg/ tele/ICU for about 5 years now. For some reason I am considering to relocate to NC since my sister lives there. I have to start all over, and find a new job again if I move there.

I am thinking to work at psych unit for at least 1 year in order to obtain experience so I can apply for DNP or NP program in the future because I found I am really interested in psychiatrics since i was a student nurse, but I didn't work in psych unit when I first started. I took my teachers advice to obtain experience in med-surg as a new-grad so I would be more marketable in this field. It's been 5 years...I haven't made move yet but deep down in my heart. My heart is for mental illness pts. I have searched job openings for psych RN in NC. Most of them require 1 year psych experience. I wonder I might have trouble finding a psych RN position in NC if I made this change. Can someone with similar experience give me some input? Thank you!!! Your reply is greatly appreciated.
