Left job without a new one

I put in my two week notice to my previous job that I worked at for 5 years. I have a great letter of recommendation from my DON and left on good terms. I took a few weeks to perfect my resume and now I have applied to a few area hospitals and have not heard back yet...well it has only been 8 business days since I sent my first application. Will employers understand that I left my previous job to focus full time on finding a new job that is right for me? I know there is no turning back now, just need some advice and opinions! Thanks!

I've left a nursing job twice with no backup at the ready and had no problem finding another nursing job right away. Might be different now. This was within 5 years ago.
When I have been on the lookout for jobs, i utilize Indeed postings. there are SO MANY more than other sites. just apply for all sorts of things. this may be a great time to try some new options. with a great letter of recommendation something will surface. good luck!
