A new cna student in nyc need your adviseRating: (votes: 0) I am new here and would like to seek advise from all of you,any input is highly appreciated. I am 31 years as father of two kids, live in queens,ny.have an office job which is paid about $11/hour and never is enough for my family.i just decided this weekend to go for the 6 weeks cna training program with new york medical training center in flushing,ny.and i do have a few question . 1: After i finish the cna course,is it necessary to take the pct course too or i can go straight to look for the job? 2: Is it easy for a newly certified male cna (or maybe with pct course too) to get a job in nyc in today's bad economy, and if you could advise me approx how much per hour i can expect? Thank you very much for your help! I am a PCA in Kansas City and the pay is much different I am sure, however, the pay depends on a lot of things. Full time PCAs make LESS then PRN (as needed) but PRN people do not get medical benefits. Also, there is a 15% difference in night shift and an 8% difference for weekend shift. Call some local hospitals, talk to HR and ask what the start PCAs at. They should tell you, if not call a different hospital Comment:
I think you should get answers about pay and opportunity before you commit to a study program. If the hospitals won't accept calls then go online to see what jobs are being offered and how much they pay. Online is the only way my little hospital accepts applications, so I imagine the same is true of larger facilities. Also, hospitals are not the only facilities using CNA's. Talk to an advisor at the CNA program and get their input.
