Support socks/hoseRating: (votes: 0) when i was doing floor nursing, it was teds all the way. since then, jobst are a more popular anti-embolism stocking. i use the 15-20mm compression for 12 hour shifts now. greatly decreases my dependent edema and helps with leg and back pain. they can be found at medical supply retail stores. I just ordered some made for men made by comfilon/activeskin. They are a full support hose and I got them in the mail today. I am gonna try them out tomorrow since I will be there for 10-12 hours on my feet all day. I got them without feet but I have a pair with feet on the way too. I wanted to try it both ways. I dont currently have edema anywhere, I got them to prevent varicose veins that I feel but cant yet see.

Not for nursing duty (cause I haven't even started clinicals yet!) but for wedding photography where I am on my feet for 8 hours straight, I use knee length full support compression socks from Walmart. When I combine this with Motrin, I can go and go and the next day, not want to saw off my own feet! Because I am overweight this regiment is required for me or I will be suffering for days after.

I wear closed toe knee highs. Most of mine are Kendall TED. My ankles swell and this helps plus I can work 12s with little to no foot or leg fatigue.

When I was doing floor nursing, I always wore support pantyhose -- it makes a big difference by the end of the day (at least it did for me!) I liked the Sheer Energy "Full Support" hose -- good combination of support and reasonable price.I never wore support hose before I started nursing, but, since then, support hose (not the "full support," but the "fashion" support hose) is all I wear -- because my legs feel so much better when I do.

I wear thigh high ted hose. Don't like the support hose that fit as panties too, asthey're too uncomfortable. I can tell a big difference when I don't wear the TED hose; my legs ache something awfulif I don't wear them. Plus I want to keep my nice looking legs from getting varicoseveins.

I have faithfully worn Rockers brand medically correct knee highs for several years. It helps tremendously with any edema. I used to have 2 + pitting after my three 12's in a row. Now I have barely have any perceptible edema (I also lost some weight that really helped). They also help my legs not be achy after my 3 shifts in a row I commonly work. It struck me about a year or so ago to start wearing them when I take plane trips (I was about to take an international flight that was 9 hrs long). Not only did it keep my legs from getting swollen, it also helped keep my feet warm (my feet always freeze on plane trips).
