After nurse refresher

1 I am currently participating in a nurse refresher at MDCC in Florida. I was just wondering What happens next? I am a newly licensed nurse since Nov 2009, graduated in 2001. Have not worked as a nurse-ever. I have been having a hard time getting a nurse position. A recruiter suggested the refresher and so I am taking it now. So far things are coming back to me. Can't wait for clinicals!!! Just looking for suggestions on how I would incorporate that in my resume? Anyone ever had the same issue? Thank you all for your info.
Good for you! I was in your same position about 2 years ago but had no experience for an even longer period of time after getting my licence. I took a refresher course and listed it on my resume along with all of my other educational history. I took the original and a copy of the completion certificate with me to my interview. I explained the reason for the large gap of time (stay at home mom, elderly parents ...) Fortunately, the market wasn't as tight and I was offered a position. It was a general med-surg floor where I felt I could get the best overall experience. It's been challenging at times, not so much with pt. care, but all of the other things like learning the Drs, who's who in the hospital, where to go for supplies, and on and on. I am now working on a cardiac step down unit and continuing to learn new things every day. Stick with it. Hopefully the job market will improve soon and you will be on your way. Best of luck to you.

I am in a similar situation (graduated 2008 and licenced in 2010 and never worked as a nurse) and was suggested to do a refresher course as well. But the "refresher" course I found was basically a week of class without clinicals. Do you still think that is work it?

Being as you are only 2 yrs out, you probably don't really need the skills refresher. When I was looking, 5 yrs was what I was hearing as the time to take a refresher. The reveiw probably wouldn't hurt, and it would show you are interested in doing your best to stay current.

I'm glad you are coming back to the workforce as a nurse! I think that its awesome that you did the refresher course. I would suggest you put it on your resume. That way employers know that you "re-learned" your skills after not being a nurse for a long time. When you are doing clinicals I would suggest that you talk to the nurses on the floor and ask them what's the best way to apply for jobs or if you could talk to the floor manager. That way they see who you are and that you are very interested in starting a career with them.
