English expressions in anesthesiology

Hello everybody !

I�m working in Germany in anesthesiology. When the patient arrives before the surgery we start monitoring ( bloodpressure, ekg, o2- satiety and a needle in the patients vein).

How can i explain this to english speaking patients? Is it correct to say : "I�m going to start monitoring...?/ I do EKG...etc" ?
What is the common way to say it in English?

You can say "I'm going to put a heart monitor on you so we can see what your heart is doing" "I'm going to start an IV on you." "I need to check your oxygen level" "I'm going to take your blood pressure"

I would say "I'm going to attach some monitors and start an IV"

Hello, While I am not in anesthesia the wording I use prior to connecting someone to their monitors is to say something like, "I need to connect you....or.... its time to hook you to the leads....or....its time for these, (while holding the leads and gestureing to where I am going to place them on them but pointing to me."
