Bad eval

Okay im not sure my eval was horrible but i certainly don't feel okay about it. I have been there several months they said im good with pts, i help out coworkers blah blah, blah

then my room for improvement was that I need to be less social with those under me( that is probably fair, i have noticed people/cnas have been complaining about other nurses to me, i try not to respond but obviously there is a boundary issue that they feel comofortable complaining to me ) . and that they have had complaints from a 'few cnas' that im harsh.

I am not a harsh person there is one person i have been less than sugar sweet with after multiple request during a night to do something and she either argues with me or just doesn't do it and then i finally am pretty firm about what i expect. The next night i try to start with a clean slate but she does it again and again.. I don't think its fair that went on my evaluation. It was never brought up to me that she was upset , I was never given the opportunity to defend myself. I brought up the person and she acknowledged she is "one of them" ( im confident taht is the the only incident) I brought up some of my issues that have led to me be tougher with her and we are going ot have a one on one sit down with my manager regarding those issues.

My question is im horrified that is on my eval and my boss is leaving so that is what will be there for my next boss to see should i say something in protest to that or just suck it up and move on?


when i was leaving she said how excited they all were that i was there and that i thought i was doing well.....but that is not what i walked away from reading the eval.
after years of evals (not just as an RN but as a tech too) they nearly have to give you something to improve on, for example mine was sigining off on my hourly rounding sheets. As long as she don't have write ups, or other disciplenary actions, you're fine!!I'd also bring my issue with that CNA to my managers attention.

They always have to write something for you to improve on during your eval. As long as you don't get written up, you're fine. And that cna issue should be brought up to management definitely.

as previous posters have mentioned, there always has to be an area to improve in.i once got a glowing evaluation that ended with, "katherine does not polish her shoe laces when she polishes her shoes."

I agree with the other posters. They have to have something for you to work on. If I were in that situation, I'd do my best to suck it up and tell my nurse manager that I am always looking to improve and so I appreciate the feedback...BUT, in the future, I'd ask the nurse manager to have the CNA or whoever confront you directly in a timely manner so that you can settle things ASAP. I don't think it's fair when nurse managers pile up 6 months of stuff and then dump it on you at once with no opportunity to 1) begin work on in as that particular arises and 2) allow for an opportunity for staff to work things out among themselves.Do you plan to talk to the CNA about the feedback?

I was a supervisor for a few years. My supervisor checked over the first evaluation I wrote of an employee. She told me my evaluation of him was too high!!!! "If he gets high marks on this evaluation then how can he show improvement next year!!!!"Ever since then I have shrugged off evaluations, they are almost meaningless!!!!!

Take my advice: respond to what is written in your evaluation with your own assessment of your skills and behavior and formulate a corrective action plan if necessary. Dispute, in writing, any issues that you don't agree with and why. Have this document attached to your evaluation and request (in writing) that your manager give you feedback on your performance at least quarterly. Mark the dates for feedback on your calendar and initiate follow up with your manager at that time. If the manager does not initiate a follow up with you as requested, make sure that you document this fact and assure that it goes into your employee file. Make sure you get a copy of your entire evaluation plus the additional pages that you add. Make sure you read everything on your evaluation in detail. If you have an issue with something on your evaluation, take some time to think it over before you sign the evaluation and offer a response.I cannot stress to you how important this is. Poor evaluations will come back to haunt you if you request a transfer within the facility or if you leave and need a job reference. A lot of managers won't give reference information after you leave so some potential employers will ask for a copy of your evaluations instead. Trust me, no matter how stupid your manager is or how bad they are at their job, their opinions can affect your future employment opportunities. And remember, GET COPIES OF EVERYTHING.

This does not really sound like a poor evaluation. Everyone needs some 'room for improvement'. If you are still rather new and that is all there is, then you are doing more than okay! Will you be getting a raise soon? If so, then your eval was good.Everything in perspective. Two aides complained that I didn't say 'please', I just ordered them around. Why should I have to beg every time I want something done that is well overdue?!!!
