RN switching to Lactation Consultant??

Rating:
(votes: 5)

I'm thinking of getting scooling to become a Lactation Consultant. I was often praised on my ability to help moms new to nursing preemies in NICU. Is this a very marketable job in Southern California? Money isn't everything, but have student loans to pay and this economy is still unsteady as far as jobs.
Around here it isn't a "switch" it's just a certification the RN's get on top of their RN lisence. We have LR's at the hospital. They work L&D, but help with lactation as well. They get paid their normal rate- with a bonus I think for certification.
