Please Review my Resume

hi, i've been a nurse for eleven months now and as soon as one year hits i plan to start applying to ob jobs. i currently work med/surg and my job is awful. i have had to start taking an anti-anxiety med and i still deal with chest pain, reflux, migraines and depression from the sheer stress. seven pts. is too many, especially when you have two new admissions, a pt. fresh out of icu, unstable tele pts, pts. getting blood products and confused pts. trying to crawl out of bed. i have even contemplated suicide. this job has sucked the life out of me. it is unsafe and i just can't stand it much longer. some may remember that i recently got a good evaluation and a raise. i really try my best but i'm done. the other night i realized that i have got to get out of there. i had two very confused pts. one in restraints that kept getting out of his handmits and pulling at his ng tube which i had just inserted (i literally spent the first three hours of the shift with this man trying to get him properly restrained and this was with help). my other pt. came in with multiple facial fx from a fall at home and was constantly getting out of bed. family didn't want restraints and the don said we weren't allowed to have sitters. this was after the charge nurse had sent home two "extra" aides. well anyway, by the end of my shift i found myself thinking...i don't care if he falls, my shift is almost over. that is terrible. i know i will be berated for saying that.

so please, for the love of god help me get into another area of nursing, one that i've been passionate about my whole life. i would never normally think that way but i had ,had it. i would really appreciate if any nms could look at my resume. i really want to stick out because it's so obvious that i need to get out of the toxic place i work. i apologize for the long rant and appreciate it if anyone can help me. thank you for reading this.

Sounds good to me if they are willing to train. I'd hire you. Impressive awards.

Looks good! You could consider adding a GPA if it is impressive. And please, get out of that job! Apply for OB but if you don't get anything I would consider applying in other areas. Life is too short to be miserable. Also, consider putting in applications now. It takes a long time to go through the process.

Razi, I completely feel your "pain". I relate to this ALOT!. I have been a nurse for 7 years. Your resume looks good. The only thing I would suggest is changing your objective a little so that it states your goal is a lifelong career in OB nursing. Just let them know this is where you want to be and where you want to stay. Also, talk to someone in your hospitals OB department. It will be easier to transfer within there rather than go to another system. You should nothave to do the hospital/nursing/computer orientation pieces which will be a cost benefit to the hospital. Also consider OR, it is ONE patient at a time. Good Luck and hang in there.HUGS and TLC

Eep, if you weren't from Louisiana, I'd think we worked at the same place. Just throw in yet another pt plus charge nurse duties.... Completely unsafe and not worth our licenses and hard work. I too am approaching a year and have been adjusting my resume; looking to get out fast! I think your resume looks really good actually. I would add GPAs if above 3.5 and I second Spode's comment regarding adjusting the objective to make it clear that OB is where your heart lies. Maybe take off the high school portion of the education section if you need more room. Best of luck to you! I hope we both find what we are looking for!

I think your best bet would be to go through a resume service. Anyone here can say it looks good, but there's only so much WE know about how to write a resume. A service will help you maximize the effectiveness of your resume. It would be well worth any fees, by the sounds of it.

Hi! Very impressive resume! The only thing I would fix is the objective. I have always been told that the objective should state what you can offer an employer, not what your goals are ...but I havent been a nurse for too long. Just my 2 cents. I wish you the best of luck!

Hi there! I have a couple of suggestions:- Make your objective more original like others already mentioned. - I would take out the Coral Community College. You really only need to list the colleges that you got degrees from. You could take out the high school info as well since it's assumed that you have a HS diploma (or GED) if you went on the college. And certainly add your GPA if you had a great one. - Instead of "performing", I believe it should be "perform". Also, maybe in that last bullet you could use "Proficient in" instead of "perform" to avoid reusing the same word.- You shouldn't list your license number on your resume. - You could break up the Certifications/Awards/Volunteer section since you have so many to list (which is awesome!). I think it would make it easier to read and would make each one stand out more instead of being clumped in one section.Best of luck in finding a great job!
