Hello all,

I am a recent new grad and I am nearing the end of my orientation on my unit. Any ideas of what kind of gifts I should get for my 2 main preceptors?

Thanks, any advice is greatly appreciated :-)
Some really good chocolates. Or a gift card to Starbucks.

Some nice beauty products, esp good lotion. My hands are always dry.

Whatever you decide to do as a gift ... don't forget to give them a "professional reward" that correlates to the "professional gift" of teaching and mentorship they have given you. They helped support your career, you should support theirs -- by writing a note of thanks and praise and copying it to your manager so that it can be put in their employment file. Such a thank-you note can help them get a good evaluation score, perhaps a promotion, etc. in the future. We nurses don't do that sort of thing enough. People do good work and nobody documents it in their personnel file -- and the good work gets lost and forgotten. Try to prevent that by putting it in writing in their files.

Home baked goods (chocolate chip cookies), groupon, gift cards, good lotion for hands and feet.

Comment:
the card would mean more to me than a gift, but I also favor good hand lotion, especially if it can be stored in the locker. We can only used hospital approved lotions in the nursing station, to prevent infection.

Pedicure gift certificate?

Comment:
surely in your time together you've found out a few things that he/she liked - I'd go that route. As a nurse of 20 years, I find the stethoscope covers a bit outdated and to me, an infection control issue. But your preceptor may use one and so a new one would be a good idea definitely warrants at least a thank you card

I got my preceptor a candle, and some movie tickets to use on her day off. Oh, and I also gave her a recommendation letter for our hospital's clinical ladder program.
