Rationale for wound packing irrigationRating: (votes: 0) First year LPN student? How many years are there? Comment:
Wound packing irrigation? Don't you mean wound packing and/or irrigation?Irrigation is to clean out the wound with an appropriate psi pressure. Packing is to fill the dead space and ensure the wound heals from the base upward and doesn't cover in from the top and keep the open space unhealed.

Wound packing especially if it is wet to dry is used to help remove debri. Debridment is needed to promote healing and to expose the "pink" granulated tissue. This "pink" tissue needs to be exposed in order for proper healing to occur. remember that wounds ( pressure ulcer, and diabetic ulcers as well as other wounds) heal from the inside out.

Yes I did mean wound packing and/ or irrigation. Thank you for your response, I appreciate it! As for how many years are there for LPN students? One is the correct answer, in the program I am in. Not for all programs
