Denied employement d/t Adderall????????Rating: (votes: 8) You have a script so I dont see a problem Comment:
Nope. You have a prescription. Adderall doesn't impair you if you take it as prescribed. Technically, you are less impaired when taking it if you need it for ADHD or narcolepsy.

I take this medication for AD/HD and I have never had a problem with UDS. I have always taken in my current bottle. You should not have a problem either. In addition, most drug screens these days differentiate between amphetamines and methamphetamines.

Naw. I take adderall and it's superb. You're fine.

you shouldn't have a problem. i use to collect urine drug screens as a cma, and when we collected them we were just to fill out the info on the form. there isn't a place to list medications on the one we had. it was up to a physician and his administrative assistant to review the report and obtain precription information after the results were in. personally, i've had some drug screens ask for meds before hand and i've had some that didn't. it just depends on facility policy.

It seems like it would be discrimination if they wouldn't hire you b/c you have a prescription. And believe me, as ADHD as I am they would want me to take my Concerta.
Comment:
I would not worry.when they do drug screens at my old job, you would go out and do your test, MD would come back to say they had x & x in their urine. Supervisor would call to ask about meds you were on and if you had a script it was regular procedure.

This comes back to HIPAA and ADA...you have the right to have a condition treated. They cannot deny you employment because you have a valid medical condition and have a valid prescription...whether or not it shows up on a drug test, as long as you can provide documentation to prove it.It sounds like what happened (because I was recently prescribed a medication that shows up on drug tests)...is that they don't want to ask for any medication...b/c they don't WANT to know everything you are on...they only want to know what shows up on the drug tests. That is why they said they didn't need it and called you when it came back positive...because the results probably went to someone different.THEN they ask you to bring in the prescription. To only ask for you to bring in prescriptions that show up on a drug test is a way to protect your privacy...because they don't need the full list of everything you are on.

Here in Texas, we were not allowed to write any medications on the UDS form prior to the screening. If a test comes back positive, it is sent to a Medical Review Officer for review. The MRO is a licensed physician who will review the result, check and verify the prescription and report back to the company. It will be reported as a Verified positive meaning it was positive for a legitimate prescription and NOT an illegal substance. The employer can't refuse employment based on verified positives. Hope this helps.

Usually when people have a prescription there is no problem. The only thing I would worry about as a manager is if the employee what taking some type of sedative drug. Would he/she be able to stay awake and alert enough to do the job.

I know how you feel, I took my urine drug screen while I had a cold, so I had OTC cold medicine in my system and OTC allergy relief and I though that was reason to worry because their was no where to list what I had taken. But I read through the paperwork on what they were testing for, and they look at parts per (some unit) of different drugs that could be in your system, it would be unlikely that even on a prescription of Adderall that it would show up high enough to render a raised eyebrow. As long as you have a prescription and are taking the reccomended dose, you have nothing to worry about.
