Wildest lab values you've ever seen?

2 I was just wondering what's the most off the chart lab values (true values, not lab screw ups) that you'd encountered where the patient lived to discharge? I've seen:

Hgb 2.8 -- we just about emptied the blood bank.
PTT > 240
PT > 120
INR > 10
5.1 hct; it looked like koolaid; you could actually see through it...

My 9 month old baby boy had a WBC of 132,000. He had osteomyelitis of the ankle joint and had surgery to drain it. Hospital for 3 weeks for IV antibiotics (this was in 1978).

* INR of 14.1 r/t Coumadin overdose (pharmacy said give 10 mg QHS, nurse gave 10 mg QID). We couldn't load him full of Vitamin K fast enough. I think he got every bag of cryo and FFP in the hospital, too.* An ABG panel from a recently extubated patient revealed the following: pH 7.21, pO2 44, pCO2 59, HCO3 22.1. Pt had lungs full of secretions and wouldn't cough/deep breathe r/t language and cognitive barriers. She wound up being a STAT retube.

BAL 610....walking and talking

Comment:
pO2 of 34 (by ABG) and the patient was fine, chatting the the doc. The human body is amazing in its ability to compensate over time. This patient had chronic lung disease for many years.
