in need of some words of encouragement...Rating: (votes: 0) this happened to me. i had to retake math 2 times, 3 times was the limit. i barely passed the math section, and now i am a nurse! you can do this. i am so bad at math, i have considered myself as having dyscalcula lol. (math version of dyslexia.) but thankfully, in nursing the math is regular, so if you learn it once, you know it forever. i always have a hard time on general math!! i always have great empathy for people who are having trouble in math, much much love and support Comment:
thank you so much. im gana re take it again and hopefully do better. im glad that im not the only one out there who is horriable at math and im happy to hear their are people out there like me who hate math and still became nurses!

I totally feel you on the dyscalcula (love that!) I HATE doing calculations. I feel completely stupid and inept. I am doing better the more I practice. Practice practice practice. You will get it and you will be fine. Once you are in make sure you let instructors, especially clinical instructors, know this is a weakness. Everyone has been very supportive and patient when I am up front in the beginning and let them know I am horrible with math. They also have shared a lot of tricks and different ways of doing calculations. I am already getting better at it and I am still a student so you will be just fine.

Go buy the book Calculate with Confidence. It is excellent. Our program used it to teach us dosage calculations. It also has a review section that goes over basic math including fractions. I wish I had read it before I took the entrance exam.

I recommend doing math for at least an hour each day so that problem solving becomes second nature to you. The more you do it, the easier it will get. You might even start to enjoy it.
