I recently moved from Oregon back to Alabama as my husband is in the military...I have applied for FIFTY-SEVEN jobs which were all advertised in various places, and have not been hired for ONE...not ONE. I have five years' experience in psych and 1 in med/surg...I canNOT for the life of me figure out why I'm not getting a job and it's quite disheartening. *sigh*
I am sorry to hear that... have you thought about VA hsopital? since your husband is in the military, whenever you guys move, you can have a job in other state VA. ... that is what I heard..

Comment:
Try to get a contractor job somewhere! Look on usajobs.gov. They show hospital, clinic spots as well as VA spots.Or have him/you contact the family resource center on base- in the AF it's the Airman & Family Readiness center.Either way, good luck!

Comment:
Did you apply for unemployment? Many states allow you to claim unemployment if your husband got orders to a new duty station and that was the reason you had to quit your job. Good luckhttp://www.ncsl.org/?TabId=13331

Comment:
also DO NOT volunteer that you are a military spouse unless you have to. Voice of experience, unfortunately since they know we move a lot, we tend to have an unspoken prejudice against us (but has been point blank told to me by potential employers)

Comment:
Thought about registry or per diem? Many temporary staffing agencies can find you work if you're flexible. Doctors office, clinics & even hospital assignments.Look for one that specializes in nursing. Good luck...

I just went through this too - we moved from FL to CO. I applied for prob about 50 jobs in early December. Nothing, not a word until early February. Then most of the jobs I applied for called me for an interview.I agree about the military thing, I would keep it on the down low, as they all want to know why you moved. I said it was for job opportunities for my husband (which is true for you as well) and for how beautiful it is here.Good luck - and I am sure you know this, but don't forget to call and follow up on those applications!

Wow. Had no idea about the military discrimination issue. Geez. So much discrimination in so many ways. I eagerly await the day that the quantum shift hits and the majority of people in this world start acting from the higher capabilities of their humanity. By the way, the agency idea sounds really good...what about connecting with the traveling nursing agencies? Much hope and blessings for placement into a postition which suits you perfectly.

@nightengalegoddess - i don't know how to correctly do the quote thing, sorry. The military issue I think is just because it's so competitive out there right now that employers are very reluctant to hire someone that is not "here to stay". That's what I was told because I was a traveler prior to moving - they wanted to make sure that they are not hiring someone who will relocate again in the near future.

psych experience...what about LTC? Might not be your first choice, but there are some that have great rehab. Would be a foot in the door somewhere and $$$. What about looking at working at a docs office. Some of our psych docs have nurses that they bring with them to the LTCs and they do prep work and chart reviews etc. I would have thought that the VA system would give you special treatment since you are married to an active duty.

Thanks for clarification, Fancypants. Guess I need to get my human head into the higher thinking mode as well!!! laughter.

Are you close to the California borderline? If so, pm me if you still need a job.
