How do I not burn this bridge??...Rating: (votes: 0) You should send them a letter stating that you have to decline the position for whatever reason you choose to tell them. I actually just did the same thing. They'll understand. Comment:
No way you can get out of telling them, so just move forward and get it over with. Good luck in your new job.

This is a huge opportunity for you. Since you haven't started orientation, you're in good shape. The PT job hasn't had to spend any money on you yet, so this is definately the best time to leave. Since your new job is pretty far away, it's unlikely that leaving this job will have any repercussions. If you want to end on the best terms, I recommend meeting in person with the nurse manager of the PT job. Explain that you were looking forward to working with her, but due to some personal reasons, you have decided to relocate. You don't need to go into any more detail than that. Thank her for the opportunity and for her time. Bring a written letter with you as well. Good luck in NYC!Ashley

Ask them if you could be per diem for them once you are settled in your new (fulltime)job.........

Gonna move this to the general nursing forum for you.

Thanks for the responses. It's not something I want to do but, ugh. I guess I just gotta do it.

I would just call them and simply state "I"m sorry I have to turn down the job you offered me I received a better oppertunity. I really appreciate the consideration and job offer." At least they haven't put money into training you yet.

I wouldn't say "I received a better opportunity." I would just say that I had accecpted another position but that the idea of working and [name of hospital here] is still a very exciting one and that you hope they will consider you in the future.
