Why won't anyone hire new graduate nurses??!!?!?

So, I am a registered nurse in Wisconsin. I graduated in Dec. '10, but I haven't found a job yet....I have looked at almost every option. Basically NO ONE wants me... I am wondering if anyone knows if you CAN work as a CNA in Wisconsin with a registered nurse license? I honestly just need experience at this point, I will try anything. Otherwise I might look at volunteer opportunites, but what type of volunteering would even be helpful??? I am so frustrated!!! I don't know what to do and wish people would just give me a chance so I can prove what a great nurse I can be
To answer your question in a nutshell..............because new grads are very expensive to train and currently there is a glut of nurses in the country. I highly doubt you could work as a CNA while being a licensed nurse but best to call your BON and find out.Wishing you find a job soon. GL! It's tough out there for most new grads. Don't give up!

I am not sure if you can work as a CNA but either way, it will not give you RN experience just CNA.. The company will still have to train you.. Check with your BON to find out if you can, it might just be a foot in the door and a paycheck..As for volunteering, try like the American Red Cross or low income health clinic in your area.. It will look good on a resume

Don't give up. It took me 7 months to find a job. Keep searching. Make personal contact when possible (ex. show up at Human Resources and ask to talk to nurse recruiter etc.). Mostly just be very persistent!! Good luck!!

It's not just because you are a new grad. There really is no nursing shortage anymore...there are areas of the country where jobs are easier to find, could you possibly relocate. I am in South Florida and the job market here is very tight. I know several people who are in your situation. One of them moved to the Dakotas where I understand there actually are jobs. Check out Indianapolis too, I was talking to a friend there and she thought the market was good.Good Luck.

Ugh sorry, your situation sucks. Have you looked at moving somewhere with more demand? I live in Lubbock TX and everyone who I graduated in May 2011 who has applied for a job has one. I had one waiting for me when I graduated. Granted we don't have the Packers or all that awesome cheese, but we do have jobs apparently Good luck!

Well thanks everyone! I WISH I could relocate....unfortunately my situation sucks even more because my fiance just got a job in the area as a police officer, so needless to say we're kinda stuck here for a little while! I guess I'll just have to start volunteering!! I'll keep looking though, I'm not going to give up on nursing!! Never!

i also can't find a job. its rough. I dont know about you but relocating is not an option for me. In my mind thats absolutely ridiculous. All everyone is looking for is EXPERIENCE. How the hell can we do that if nobody will give us a chance. Dont give up and Good Luck!

How far in Wisconsin do you live? You might want to try working in Illinois if you are close to the border. I work at the Lake County Health Dept in Waukegan, we have a lot of staff there who reside in Wisconsin. When I graduated in '07 finding a job was very competitive. You might have to look at working in a nursing home, home health, case management just to get your foot in the door. I wish you the best of luck!
