The First Day of the Rest of My Life

23 Long have I waited for what I'll be doing tomorrow. I'll be the first day of my career as a registered nurse. I can't pinpoint an exact time when my interest in nursing began. I can't tell you that I grew up putting band-aids on my baby dolls (I didn't even like baby dolls) and playing with play medical equipment. On the other hand, I can say that this has been a goal of mine for several years. And as many do, I encountered road blocks. Only with a strong sense of perseverance have I arrived at this point. To say the least, I'm proud. I know I've chosen a challenging career and I'm ready for it. I can't wait to continue learning, this time from an RN's perspective, rather than a student nurse's. Among other things, I know my career must consist of strong, continued communication, attention to detail, genuine caring and concern and hard work. I shall be the light of my patient's day and an ear when no one else is there.

I pray that I never lose the excitement for nursing that I feel today.

CONGRATS!!! Reading posts like this make me even more anxious to finish my last 2 semesters of nursing school! Enjoy your day and remember to tell us all about it.
