lpn with actions against license to rn

i have a question. i am currently an lpn and was just accepted into rn school. i have had actions taken against my license. i was wondering if this would effect me getting my rn license next year, also if it will show on the license verification under my rn license as well, even tho it was against mylpn license. so basically, does the discipline carry over to another license? cannot get a straight answer from anyone. any info would be a big help.
Have you tried contacting the board of nursing or an administrative law attorney (one who has experience working with professional licensing boards/board of nursing)? I would venture to guess it depends on what kind(s) of "actions" you have against your LPN license. When I recently filled out the application for my license after graduation, one of the questions was 'have I EVER had any action against ANY license in ANY jurisdiction?' This was also asked on the paperwork submitted for nursing school.

Yes, the same BON oversees the licensing of both LPNs and RNs...it will affect the RN license.

Get a lawyer Now! As mom-n-student said one that is familiar with Nursing law. I hope you have one for the action against your LPN license.

Did the school not inquire if you have had any disciplinary problems when you applied for the course? I would have thought they would have approached your employer before accepting you. After all, iffy students affect their pass rate.I would think it should depend on what you were disciplined for. If it's to do with dangerous or unprofessional practice leading to suspension it stands to reason your BON will have a problem with licensing you. As previously advised, see a lawyer - a good one - not only to consult regarding your question, but to represent you in your upcoming case.

It will also depend on what you were sanctioned for. And if you can show/prove that you've taken steps to rectify this behavior/keep it from reoccurring. You will want to establish a record of some kind proving this. If it was a DUI, then AA meeting and completion of some kind of program. If it was fraud then classes or education etc.Good luck.

I have an attorney for this. She said it shouldn't be a problem with me getting my RN license. But no one knows it is will still show if I have had actions against me for my new license. I thought since it was a different license it would fall off. Just wondering when I apply somewhere and they go to verify my new license if it will still show the I have been disciplined or if it falls off since it would be a different license.

Honey, nothing ever just falls off. This wil follow you. Again, it's the same Board of Nursing. Don't you think they will see the sanctions on the LPN license? You need to make sure your attorney is well versed in administrative law and experienced with the nursing board. If he or she is not--then get one who is. THis is serious. Good luck.

Thanks for ur help. Also when I applied to nursing school I didn't have any actions taken against my license. I am working on finishing the classes that was ordered and can't pay my fine until I receive the final copy of the order. All should be completed by the end of august. I can't talk to the board because I have an attorney and everything has to go thru them. I was reprimanded for a hippa violation. I did something stupid without thinking. I'm just wondering if I should spend the money for RN school if I won't be able to get a descent job afterwards. I have never been in trouble with the board or any of my other jobs. I'm just worried that when I finish school and if I pass will it still show on the verification site for a different license.

It is highly likely that it will show that you had an action against your license, especially since it was an action against a nursing/healthcare license. A HIPAA violation is generally taken very seriously. You might also want to ask at/inform your school of nursing, especially if this is a action occurred AFTER you applied to nursing school. Also, there is an organization of nurse attorneys, www.taana.org that has a referral service if your present attorney is not experienced in going before professional boards/board of nursing.
