Preliminary/Emergency School Nurse Services CredentialRating: (votes: 0) I'm a BSN RN New Grad and thinking of going to be a school nurse. I would like to obtain the Preliminary School Nurse Services Credential. I've been googling and searching a whole lot but cannot find out how to apply for it and what the requirements are. I'm hoping to get that credential to be qualified for the school nurse positions I'm planning to apply to. Any helps/suggestions/comments would be greatly appreciated. ![]() Professional Certification provides an ongoing, quality credentialing process for eligible school nurses. Talk with your school district. The Emergency certification can beoften obtained through your state education board. It will provide youthe opportunity to work as a substitute RN secondary to emergency staffingneed. Your school system will apply on your behalf stating emergency staffing need.Ask if your State has a State School Nurse certification available. These courses are often available at a local state college. The courses often include material specific to the laws and what isrequired for students statewide, ie eye test etc ,immunizations and what youneed to make sure each student meets the health requirements, ieup to date physical.Esme12 has provided you with the National certification for School Nurses, again check with your state education dept as you may need theState Certification to work at first. You can then go for the NationalCertification on your own, ask the school nurses in your area ifthey have this certification. Also, in some states you need to courses in education and pass a teacher certification test unrelated to nursing. Many systems areunion and this is required to work in School nursing for those systems. Not usually required for substitute school nurses. The job title is often School Nurse Teacher.Sorry if this is clear as mud, please pm me and I will try tomake it crystal clear.
