Just got fired UNION???Calif

Hello fellow nurses, Help me with your opinions and experience...
Early this year I was terminated. I worked at this huge hospital for 11 years. Allegations of patient safety issues, a complaint made by a coworker. 11 years and never, ever having a problem. Note I was fired March of 2011, my union did not have my grievience heard until 2 weeks ago, 7 months after being fired and it was filed in March the day I was fired. I don't know what to do, where to go ect. I'm going to fight this, any opinions?

This is a whole lot of very specific information about your case on a public forum. This could come back on you in a bad way. Maybe you should redact or delete. JMHO

If you fight this please make sure your message is a clear concise & factual. You will want to remove any emotion from the narrative and also have someone proof read it.

Consult a lawyer.

Usually it is several months ( as long as a couple of years ) before grievances are heard.You need to make sure you present your case in a calm manner, with no hysterics and stick to the facts.

Do you have a journal/timeline description of the events that occurred? If not, write one now with clear, concise, emotion-free statements noting periods of employment, positive reviews over the course of your employment, and detailed descriptions of the incidents in question.

Just because you work for a union doesn't mean you will never get terminated. In fact, to get terminated from a union job, the employer has to have lots of documentation and consult multiple parties. Not to judge, because I have NO idea what has happened or who you are, but if someone told me they got fired from a unon job, I would think there was a legit reason....no employer wants to have to deal with the fire and brimstone a union can bring.I have many family members who are in unions, and an uncle of mine (who lives in cali) is the President of a labor union for the entire west coast and from what I understand, you really have to frack up to be fired from a union job.......But to answer your original question....call your union rep and possibly a lawyer

Consult an employment attorney and consider his/her advice. One of the first things you will probably be told is to not discuss the matter.

Get a lawyer, and stop talking about it on here, to new coworkers,to old coworkers and let your lawyer be your mouth. Nine times out of ten, they will expedite your case to get your lawyer out if their hair. Furthermore, they don't like having lawyers involved because they have to have facts, NOT hearsay.
