Certified Care Practioner

I recently attended a dinner dance fund raising event and met a lot of caregivers (some undocumented aliens) who call themselves CAREGIVERS OR CERTIFIED CARE PRACTIONERS in their business cards.....is this a new name for CAREGIVERS OR CNA? They even have their patients sit with them at the dinner dance event....

My husband had surgery this past week and the guy who admitted him, started his IV, flushed his foley, D/C'd it then discharged him was a "certified care partner". Me being me, I asked "what on earth is a certified care partner?". He said "I'm a souped up CNA. I'm also an EMT and a paramedic. I'm going to nursing school". Well, that was news to me. The RN assigned to my husband did absolutely nothing except medication reconciliation. The"care partner" was very good, mad skills, but it gave me pause.

I have searched for the registry of "Certified" care partners. Who's certifying them? There is no such animal that exists that i can find yet. An EMT, EMT-P, and a CNA? Suspicious and expensive for the bedside outside of the ED....hummmm......but these economic times are leaving many unemployed taking different jobs.I'm going to be interested at further responses.

Okay so according to the OP, CCPs are undocumented aliens, dont pay taxes and get paid in cash. Got ya!
