Just said "yes" to a travel job and a prestigious hospital wants to hire me

I just told a travel agency yes to a travel assignment and a great hospital called me for a job position. It's great, but I am conflicted. I mean we are talking about great opportunity here! What would you do? I called the travel agency and they were saying that I gave them my word and it's a matter of integrity. I haven't signed a contract with them yet. I just told the agency "yes." I am suppose to start the assignment on the 18th of October. What should I do? I don't want to burn my bridges. Ironically, it was the agency that submitted my information to the hospital.
OK so you have an offer for a full time benefited position from a prestigious hospital but you are debating turning them down for a travel position? If you called the travel company today and resigned that would be 2 weeks notice which is the standard. I don't really see the problem.

Tell the travel company to take a hike.

there are plenty of other travel companies and possibly even a different recruiter with the same company out there if you want to travel later on down the road, but this opportunity may not come back around.

Integrity? No more needs to be said on that..... if you want the full-time job, I would take it and not think twice about it. Trust me, from experience, some travel companies will try the verbal threat thing. If you did not accept in writing or receive money from them - you are not obligated. These things happen all the time.

Do what you think is best for you, because as soon as that travel company (or any company for that matter) doesn't need you, you will be out the door! Two weeks notice is plenty of time. Good luck!!

Follow your heart is what I'd do. As others have said the travel company could end up being a waste of time, and like fancypants said there is nothing on ink, do what you think is best for you.Best of luck to you,-Jan

They are trying to play you (the travel agency). They don't care about the integrity, they just care about the bottom line. Seriously, don't lose a wink of sleep over it. They'd probably hire you again anyway.

It is your career and you should decide what is in your best interest. If you have not signed a legal contract then you are not bound to the offer. I understand the conflict you feel with verbally accepting a job though. The agency knows that a contract must be in writing and that you have the right to change your mind until you sign. I would certainly give them notice of your decision to decline the position.

Take the full-time, benefitted position. No question. And DO NOT lose sleep over this.

No contract then you are not obliged to take job!They are playing with you-their mistake they should have got you to sign a contract

+1 There is no contract. They are playing the guilt trip! Of COURSE they want you to take the travel job! They get paid a commission....you walk away and that recruiter gets a smaller check until she can replace you in that slot....that is why in IT we called recruiters "pimps".Go for the prestigious hospital!

The travel company would not hesitate to screw you over something they promised you verbally but wasn't put in writing in a contract -- "what's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander." If you haven't signed a contract, you're not really obligated to them in any way.
