New RN should I renew my LPN license?Rating: (votes: 0) I wouldn't see any reason to. As a RN, you can do anything an LPN can do. Can you even have a RN and LPN license at the same time? Comment:
In my state they are tied together. You can't use both of em at the same time. You are no longer a LPN, but a RN. There is no reason to renew it in my opinion. If you want black and white evidence call the BON in your state...

Depends...do you have a RN job? If you do, then there's no point in renewing the LVN license. But if you don't have a RN job and need to find any nursing job pay the bills, then it may be worth keeping the LVN license in case you need to work as a LVN while searching for that first RN job.Of course, check with your BON first to see if it's possible for you to maintain both licenses.
Comment:
you will be held to the highest level of licensure so the LVN license has no real value. If you got your RN license taken away I doubt they would let you work as an LVN either.

Somebody here has posted that they keep both active. This has worked for her when she wanted the other at times just to get a job. Her state allows it. I think if it were me, I'd check my BON, and if allowed, I'd keep both active. Of course you know what level you are held to, but in that way I think there is not so much a difference that you would screw it all up.

Good point Meriwhen!I am able to keep both my LPN and RN licenses at the same time in NJ.I am willing to work as an LPN if I'm interested in the position and it is only being offered for LPNs.Do you have any other reasons OP other than for a job?
Comment:
I didn't. I couldn't see a need then, nor do I now.
