how can I switch my lic to another stateRating: (votes: 0) The first step I would take in your position would be to go their BON websites. There is usually a FAQ section that covers this information. Hope that helps! Comment:
If you live in Maryland (and are an RN), your Maryland license is part of the Compact states agreement. You can practice in Virginia with your compact license. You can check your license status on the Nursys website. https://www.nursys.com/To get a license in DC, you need to apply separately. It is a bit expensive ($230). You need to fill out the application, have some "passport photos", send your Nursys verification ($30) as well as any other states you are currently licensed in (and the state you were originally licensed in). You need to get fingerprinted ($50?) for the background check. I'm not sure how long it takes for the background check. It has been 2.5 weeks since I brought in my application (You can get fingerprinted at the same office at the same time when you bring in your application).DC BON link: Health Professional Licensing Administration : Application PackageYou can hold more than 1 nursing license at the same time. So, you don't have to make your Maryland license inactive.

When you look at the application, it will have a bunch of boxes asking for 'additional information'. You need to check the ones that are included or requested. As an endorsement nurse, you don't need your school records. You DO need your original licensed state and any other current state licenses (probably only Maryland for you, my original state was not Maryland). And you need the passport photos. Oh, and and a photocopy of your nursing license. The background check isn't listed anywhere in the application, but it is mentioned on the DC BON website. The address to mail/deliver the application is also one location you can use to get fingerprinted for the background check. Since Maryland required the fingerprints with the application, I assumed DC did, also. But, when I went to get fingerprinted, they said I needed to put my application in first. I had brought it with me. So, after I turned in the application, I was fingerprinted right away. I don't know how it will work if you mail the application and wait for a response regarding the background check. The office is only a few blocks away from a METRO station, so I figured that was the best way to do it.
