Question about activating my RN license

Hi all, I am currently taking a refresher course to activate my RN licence which I let it expire in 1999. I only have 1 year experience in a LTC for Peds. My question is I want to activate my licence but doesn't want to work in the clinical side of nursing. Is it worth renewing my licencse if I don't want to do bedside or clinic nursing. I am more interested in UR/clinical documentation. Should I be going through a refresher or is it going to be a waste of time if I don't want to work as a bedside nurse. I am also thinking of public health but wondering it might be tough to get in public health without any experience. Am I right? Any thoughts/sugesstions are welcome. Thanks!!
the board of nursing will tell you. if you apply for a nursing license, it's very likely they'll tell you have to take an approved refresher course to get it, regardless of where you think you will be working or at what.yeah, out of nursing for 13 years, probably hard to get a job in public health.

undoubtedly, if there's something that i don't dare to leave undone or expired those are my taxes and my rn license renewal from both continents from usa and spain. having said that, the refresher course won't hurt in accomplishing what you're after. however, i wouldn't stop there i would shadow a nurse in the unit that i'm interested in. furthermore, i have 2 dear colleagues of mine that got married and stopped working in the field, then one of them her husband died, and the other got divorced. therefore, it's always good to have a plan b to fall back on, never let your license expired. by the way, they are both working in the field after been absent for over 11yrs, you may have to do a little research but what you're after is not impossible. wishing you the very best in all of your future endeavors....aloha~

GitanoRN-you are right...I should toughen up and go back to it..Since I have left the practice thinking about starting all over again and the whole idea of patient care/bedside care gives me anxiety..I know so many nurses are working. I guess it will only make me strong rather than chickening out..
