Happy Nurses week! You Have MRSA!Rating: (votes: 0) ![]() It's ok. EVERY NURSE you probably know, including me, surely has it too. Comment:
I did a research project years and years ago about MRSA. If I remember right about 70% of the general population has it.
Comment:
According to the CDC, 25-30% of the population are colonized with staph, only 2% are colonized with MRSA. The last study I read, I believe was 4-5% of healthcare workers are colonized. I always hear nurses saying that we all are colonized, but not true at all. Thank goodness!

I've had three episodes of MRSA cellulitis. It's not fun, but you get treated when symptoms first appear, and life goes on. I did get C.diff after the last go-round (six weeks of ABX will do that sometimes). Otherwise, I rarely think about it even though I know I'm colonized......I'm just careful about hand hygiene and gloving properly, and I try to keep my immune system up to snuff with daily vitamins.

The upswing is, you always get your own private room!ITA with the others. I'm sure we all would test positive.
Comment:
I refuse to have swabs taken to confirm MRSA. Just give me Bacitracin and call it a day.

When studying nursing at uni we did a test in science class. We all swabbed our buttocks, nares and underarms, and then they were cultured. A good 7-8/10 of us had MRSA! Makes me wonder what percentage of susceptible patients get MRSA from health care providers!
